Venerable Franciscan Josefa del Castillo was born on this day in 1671. She came from an illustrious family in Tunja, Columbia, and made her profession in the Santa Clara monastery in 1694. She wrote elegantly in Latin. Her poems are considered works of Spanish literature:
“To keep me Thou hast shed / And sealed Thy love, in blood/ And in the Holy Bread/ Prepared my sacred good …”
