In 1490, the Ven. Marina de Villesca, widow of Garcia de Montemayor, was authorized to change from the Third Order Rule to that of St. Clare, in the monastery of S. Isabel de los Angeles, Cordoba, Spain. She was also allowed to receive the less-strict Urbanist Poor Clares without repeating the Novitiate. These nuns became known as “Discalced”, and spread to other cities in Spain.
