When Mother Maddalena made her last foundation in Evansville in 1897, at first, they did not have water fit to drink. Mother Maddalena prayed fervently to St. Anthony to obtain water for the convent. Shortly thereafter Bishop Chatard, the bishop of Evansville, instructed them to have a well dug at his expense. They struck an abundant vein of wholesome water; the Poor Clares still call it The Bishop’s Well.
