Saint Margaret was an ideal queen, wife, and mother, who gently influenced her forceful husband, King Malcolm. (They lived in the 1100’s, when Scotland was just emerging from very primitive conditions.) Daily she prayed for her spouse, and taught him the elements of refinement and civilization. Once a Scottish prince told a friend, “If you want to see how the angels in heaven pray, go to church and watch how Queen Margaret prays with her children before the altar.” One of her children is Saint David I of Scotland.
