Sometime between the night of September 30th and October 1st, 1572, St. Francis Borgia died. He was a widower when he entered the Jesuits. His family had numerous Poor Clares in its ranks, including his grandmother (Sister Mary Gabriel) who had been left a widow at nineteen years of age; Isabel, an aunt was also a Poor Clare at Gandia; and one of Saint Francis’ daughters (Dorothy) was also a Poor Clare at Gandia.
