Even as a young girl, Elizabeth would stop her play, go to the door of the nearby chapel, kiss the lock, and say to Jesus, “My Jesus, I am playing, but I am not forgetting you. Bless me and my companions. Good-bye.” It is significant that her future husband, Ludwig, was among those companions on whom she asked God’s blessings. (She was being raised in the family of her future husband, since it was one of those pre-arranged political marriages. Ludwig and Elizabeth grew to love one another.)
