St. Charles Borromeo recommended to the future St. Aloysius Gonzaga the practice of frequent reception of the Blessed Sacrament in order to live a virtuous life. The Church’s liturgy applies Zechariah 9:17, “the wheat of the elect and the wine that brings forth virgins,” to the Holy Eucharist, precisely in the practice of the chaste life. (cf. Jesus, our Eucharistic Love, by Father Stefano Manelli, F.F.I., pp. 48-49)
