- “This Bread is our daily bread. So, live therefore as to be able to receive it daily.” – Saint Augustine The foundresses of the Poor Clares in the United States, Mother Mary Maddalena and her sister, Mother Mary Constance Bentivoglio, went through a period of accusations and slander, and the bishop believed the charges. Their monastery was put under interdict and the nuns were forbidden the sacraments. This day is commemorated as the day when the Blessed Sacrament was restored to the Poor Clares in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1888. In commemoration of this event, we gratefully sing the Te Deum – “Holy God, we Praise Your Name” – every year on this date. The Bentivoglio’s were eventually cleared of all charges.
