St. Alphonsus Ligouri came often to the Poor Clare monastery of Nocera, Italy, near his Redemptorist convent in that city. One wonders if what was published in his True Spouse of Jesus Christ was given first as sermons and conferences to the Poor Clares of Nocera[u1]: “Should we not desire to receive Jesus as often as possible? We know that in the Acts of the Apostles that in the first ages of the church, as St. Luke tells us, the faithful communicated every day. ‘Continuing daily with one accord in the temple and breaking bread from house to house.’ (Acts 2:46) In the Syriac version, instead of ‘breaking bread, we find the word’, ‘breaking blessed bread,’ which expresses more clearly the Blessed Eucharist. Besides, the interpreters of the sacred Scriptures understand by the breaking of bread, understand Holy Communion.” - Ch. XVIII, page 565
