Saint Philippine, the co-patron of the Archdiocese of Saint Louis, is perhaps best known for the many nights she spent in silent prayer, kneeling before the tabernacle. She spent some time in Kansas, among the Potawatomi tribe, but she found their language extremely difficult, and was never able to teach them. Instead, she taught by means of her example and her prayer. The natives would steal into the church where she was praying, kneel and kiss the hem of her worn habit. They called her Quah-kah-ka-mum-ad, the “Woman-who-prays-always”.
