- On this date in 1554, the Countess of Feria, Ana Ponce de Léon, professed her Vows, with none other than Saint John of Avila preaching the sermon. She was a fabulously wealthy widow and astounded her contemporaries by entering the Poor Clares. In 1560, the saintly priest established his residence near the monastery of Saint Clare to minister to the spiritual needs of the Countess and other nuns. Her name in religion was Sister Ana de la Cruz.
