– Saint Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Jesuits, had several relatives – aunts, sisters, and nieces – who were Poor Clares. He often asked the prayers of cloistered nuns for his young Society. One time he wrote to a woman who had lost her mother: “Here in this community, we have begun to recommend her soul to God in Masses and prayers, and we shall continue to do so, to Him who created her and redeemed her with so many special graces. And the same has been ordered done in different monasteries in Rome…” [April 12, 1550]
