Saint Alphonsus di Ligouri, the founder of the Redemptorists knew the Poor Clares of Nocera, Italy, quite well. The visits of the saint became more frequent after His retirement as a bishop. His Redemptorist convent in Nocera was near the monastery of Poor Clares. One wonders how often he came to preach or to give spiritual guidance. His The True Spouse of Jesus Christ contains in written form the reflections of a lifetime: “Our Savior instituted the Blessed Sacrament under the form of food to show that, as corporal food is changed into our flesh, so this heavenly bread becomes one with us; but with this difference: that earthly food is converted into our substance, while this divine Bread transforms those who eat it into Jesus Christ.” - page 564, ch.
