Saint Alphonsus di Ligouri, the founder of the Redemptorists, knew the Poor Clares of Nocera Inferiore, Italy, quite well. The visits of the saint became more frequent after he resigned as bishop. His Redemptorist convent in Nocera was near the monastery of Poor Clares. One wonders how often he came to preach or to give spiritual guidance. His The True Spouse of Jesus Christ contains in written form the reflections of a lifetime: “Of all the sacraments, the adorable Sacrament of the altar is the most excellent. The other sacraments contain the gifts of God, but the Holy Eucharist contains God Himself.”
