We reproduce a part of the Memoirs of Mother Maddalena. In it, she recounts how she and her sister, Sister Mary Constance, made Profession into the hands of Father Bernardine, the Minister General of the Franciscans on August 23rd :
On the 23rd, the vigil of the feast of St. Bartholomew the Apostle, the Most Reverend Father General came early to say Mass in the chapel of St.Ursula. During the Mass, after the elevation, the Sisters sang a beautiful hymn suitable to the occasion. Then the Father approached to give us Holy Communion; but before we received the Sacred Host, we, kneeling, renewed in the hands of the Father General our holy vows according to the Rule of the Second Order of St. Francis.
After the thanksgiving our hearts being very sad at the thought that we had to part from him and should never again see him. We were filled with gratitude towards God and towards him for all that he had done for our spiritual welfare. (August 24th and 26th)
