This day was formerly the feast of Our Lady of Mercy, and it was on this day in 1888 that Mother Mary Maddalena and her sister, Mother Mary Constance, were found to be innocent of the accusations against them. She wrote in the Omaha Annals in her broken English:
Feast of our Lady of Mercy, this holy, sweet and compassionate Mother obtained for us all the grace, that on this day the investigation had its end caused by the leaving of the two Commissary Sisters from the S. H. [Madames of the Sacred Heart convent] where they were put there by the Bishop since the 4th of July when they left our Convent. This day will be consecrated to this Merciful Mother which has obtained for us such a grace, we intend to consecrate the day by the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Procession and Consecration to the Blessed Lady, Our Lady of Mercy.
