P. We adore You, O most holy Lord Jesus Christ, here and in all Your churches which are in the whole world, ALL: And we bless You, because by Your Holy Cross You have redeemed the world.
P. Christian hope unfolds from the beginning of Jesus’ preaching in the proclamation of the beatitudes; ALL: … through the merits of Jesus Christ and of His Passion, God keeps us in the “hope that does not disappoint.” P: Hope is the sure and steadfast anchor of the soul … ALL: that enters where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf. P: Hope is also a weapon that protects us in the struggle of salvation. ALL: Let us put on the breastplate of faith and charity, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. P: Hope affords us joy even under trial. ALL: Rejoice in your hope, be patient in tribulations. P: Hope is expressed and nourished in prayer, ALL: especially in the Our Father, the summary of everything that hope leads us to desire. ((Please turn to the readings for the day)
August 4th - Our Hope of Glory (Sit)
A Reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Colossians (Col. 1:3-6)
(Pause)
The love of Jesus, crucified and glorified, helped St. Clare to live a life based on the certainty of hope. She, the passionate lover of the Crucified, was also an ardent imitator of the Risen Lord. And this meant that Clare lived not for herself alone but for all those for whom Christ died and rose. Hope means that we can open ourselves and allow God to enter: we can open ourselves to truth, to love, to what is good. This is what the saints did, those who as “God’s fellow workers,” contributed to the world’s salvation. (Pause for quiet prayer)
