Around June 4, 1886, the trials that she was undergoing became almost overwhelming. According to some Sisters who lived with her, Mother Maddalena about that time begged also the Minister General that he permit her to resign, for the good of the community. He answered: Our Lord did not want to come down from the cross; Maddalena does. When she read this sentence, she at once went into the chapel, spent some time in prayer with many tears, and then came forth calm, — ready to carry on.
