On April 8, 1878, Mother Maddalena wrote to her sister, Matilda:
But enough; let us leave it to God… But if by my sacrifices and trials I can obtain from God that a monastery can more readily be founded, I have no desire to leave and I do not want to give up the cross, which is too precious. If God sends me still more, I will thank Him. I believe that I will never be satiated with crosses. With His holy grace I desire to have ever more, that I may be able to love Him on the cross who, I believe, will be more content to be loved by a crucified soul than by a soul seated in an armchair.
