Mother Maddalena arrived in New Orleans and wrote: On the 14 of March, 1877, the first Mass was celebrated in the poor cottage by His Grace, the Most Reverend Archbishop Perché, assisted by his secretary, the Reverend Father Anstaett, and by other members of the clergy. The Sisters and some other ladies received Holy Communion from the hand of His Grace. He gave us an instruction on the good of prayer and its results; he also exhorted the ladies and friends to assist us in everything of which we might be in need. The holy archbishop was very happy to have realized his long-cherished desire. He also blessed the house, and we all were very satisfied and happy.
