“This is the blessed and holy  place where the… Order of Poor Ladies [Clares] had its joyful origin.”   (Thomas of Celano)   The monastery of Saints Cosmos and Damian was the first home  of Poor Clares, and in it was a small tabernacle with the reserved Blessed Sacrament.  At that time in the Church, it was unusual to keep the Holy Eucharist in the tabernacle, and St. Clare was ahead of her time in her devotion to the Blessed Sacrament.
