– Father Marianus Fiege was a Capuchin Franciscan priest, who was the chaplain at Mother Maddalena’s Evansville monastery. He helped to produce an anniversary book – called The Princess of Poverty, in honor of the Silver Jubilee of the Poor Clares in America. It contained the life and writings of St. Clare, and the memoirs of Mother Maddalena. He wrote in the Preface of the book on January 11, 1900: However, I feel confident, that in spite of its short-comings, it will prove interesting to many, and that, with God's blessing, it will be productive of much good, and will, above all things, become the humble instrument of leading many an earnest soul from the snares of a seductive world into the safe harbor of the peaceful cloister. His wish was fulfilled when our Sister Mary Philippa was given the Princess of Poverty when she visited the Evansville monastery before joining the Poor Clares. She lived with some of the Sisters who had known Mother Maddalena. Sister Mary Philippa was one of the founding members of our St. Louis monastery in 1959.
