On this day in 1745 occurred the death of Blessed Maria Crucified Satellico, Poor Clare of Ostra Vetere. Born in Venice in 1706, she lived with her parents in the home of her maternal uncle, a priest who provided her with spiritual and cultural formation. Early on she showed an aptitude for prayer, music and singing. She had a singular devotion to Christ’s Passion and to the Blessed Virgin Mary. After being accepted in the Poor Clare monastery of Ostra Vetere, she utilized her musical gifts at the service of her sisters and in praise of God in personal and liturgical prayer. She served for a time as Abbess. She died at the young age of thirty-nine years in Ostra Vetere. (See December 31st)
