On June 23, 1535, occurred the birth of Juana of Austria, the youngest daughter of Emperor Charles V of Spain. She later built the convent of Las Descalzas Reales, which was as a Poor Clare monastery for the Spanish royal family. The famous Franciscan preacher Juan of the Angels was the preacher of the royal chapel and was the spiritual director of the nun-infanta Margaret of the Cross. He died at this monastery.
