CHRIST THE KING. The Poor Clare monasteries of Arras, Lavaur, Cambrai, and Limoges were actively involved in promoting Christ the King. The Solemnity was instituted in 1926 by Pope Pius XI. On this day in 1804 Mother Genevieve de la Marche, the superior of three refugee Poor Clares, died in Georgetown. Mother Genevieve was related to the French royal family, and had special reasons for leaving France. This first attempt at Poor Clare life in America lasted from 1794-1805.
