On March 2, 1884, Mother Maddalena was thrilled to receive some needed books – a Ritual containing liturgical ceremonies and a Custom Book - from the ancient monastery in Marseilles, France. Mother Mary Constance wrote to thank the Sisters in Marseilles: Mother Maddalena made me carry the Custom Book which she has received, and our Ritual - Constance means the one sent to her—to the altar of Our Lord, in order that the Sisters should see them for the first time under the eyes of the Good Master, and she added also: ‘When you deposit them there, pray well that there be neither more nor less than what pleases God.' So I made little sweet eyes at our Lord and said to Him.’ ‘You know all our affairs; think of them.'
