Salimbene de Adam, a Franciscan friar who wrote chronicles was born on October 9, 1221. He had a number of relatives connected with Poor Clares: several nieces were Poor Clares; his sister was a Poor Clare; even his mother joined the Poor Clares and is buried in a monastery. He wrote his narrative for his Poor Clare-niece, although it is difficult to imagine why he chose such gossipy stories for her reading.
