On October 2, 1986, Msgr. Gianfranco Nolli was venerating the reliquary containing the body of St. Clare. To his distress, he noticed serious deterioration. Consulting the Community, the decision was made to open the ornate glass sarcophagus and to scientifically treat the blessed remains. St. Clare’s body is now on display in a full-body reliquary, forensically modelled on the skeletal bones, giving as true a likeness of St. Clare as is possible.
