(August 10th is ordinarily the feast of St. Lawrence.) - There are several churches dedicated to Saint Lawrence in Rome. Mother Maddalena was born in that Palazzo Fiano whose side windows look upon the Corso, while the facade is on the Piazza S. Lorenzo in Lucina. It flanks the church of that name, where the gridiron of St. Lawrence’s martyrdom is venerated.
Mother Maddalena came from the monastery of San Lorenzo in Rome. She was associated with Saint Lawrence from the time she was born until her departure for America. (see August 7th)
Finally, she was able in Omaha to realize the construction of her first permanent monastery:
August 10th, the feast of dear St. Lawrence, was indeed a memorable day for us. On that day, our kind and generous benefactor, Mr. Creighton, came to hand over to us all the bills of the building, fully paid, as well as the deeds of the property, donated to the Monastery by Mr. and Mrs. Creighton. Huma words were wholly inadequate to express our gratitude. God alone can reward such charity.
