A priest, who had befriended Mother Maddalena Bentivoglio when she brought the Poor Clares to the United States, was excommunicated on this day in 1887. Dr. (Msgr.) Edward McGlynn left the Church and began giving lectures about his problems with authority, etc. He was scheduled to speak where Mother Maddalena was. She stayed up all night praying. Dr. McGlynn left town and did not speak there. Shortly afterwards he returned to the Church.
